Leo Martin died peacefully Thursday, December 3, 1998 at age 79. Leo devoted his working life in service of Canada, from his tour of duty with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps (R.C.A.S.C.), during WWII, through to his retirement from the federal Public Service in 1973 as Chief of Staff Relations, Department of Industry Trade and Commerce. During his career in the Foreign Service he served in London, Paris, New York and Geneva.
Leo joined PAFSO in 1975 as Executive Director. He served the Association’s membership with great distinction and dedication, where his strong labour skills and understanding and commitment to the Foreign Service were always very much in evidence and helped strengthen the Association. After retiring from PAFSO in 1983, Leo continued his labour negotiations work for clients such as the Veteransí Hospital in Ste-Anne de Belleville, Quebec. Many of his colleagues in the public service benefited from his expertise and guidance. All who knew him were profoundly touched by his humanity.
Widower of Eileen, Leo will be sadly missed by his children and their families: Vaughan (Audrey Schreyer), Merv (Laraine), Claire (Derek Hudson), Linda (Ian Gadbois) and Louise (Mazen Khoury), grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends.
