by Sam Hanson
A dry and dusty, bright and sunburnt land
Last year was host to the United Nations.
They’d come, they said, to take the place in hand:
In freedom’s cause, with numbrous delegations.
Others briefly came, and then complained:
“The BOERS keep these simple folk in thrall!”
The PEOPLE, whom these carpers thought enchained,
Voted — and made monkeys of them all.
“The PRINCIPLES”, , some wondered, “will they last?
Or will SWAPO try to rule by decree?”
Without dissent, the Principles were passed;
The Assembly found it easy to agree.
NAMIBIA: your hoped-for hour is here;
May your people ever prosper without fear.
