The Professional Committee has planned an active fall program and is pleased to announce its lineup of Breakfast Seminars for the coming months.
The Professional Committee is an informal group of staff in the Department of External Affairs dedicated to organizing events of interest to the Department’s members. The Committee’s informal breakfast seminars feature guest speakers and aim to broaden horizons by promoting and stimulating open and lively discussions. Breakfast seminars begin at 8:30 a.m. and are held in the Crush Auditorium or the Cafeteria of the L.B. Pearson Building, 125 Sussex Drive. They usually consist of a 30-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute Question and Answer period.
Our fall preview promises a high-quality roster for our breakfast seminars.
• U.S. Ambassador Ney;
• Don Campbell, the Deputy Minister for International Trade;
• Dr. Hans Blix, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency;
• Peter Walker, ADM, Personnel (on plans for the new Foreign Service Institute). Other forthcoming topics (dates to be confirmed) include:
• A Canadian Perspective on International Refugee Determination;
• A New Germany in a New Europe;
• Les entreprises en renaissance;
• Foreign Policy Perspectives (part of a series);
• A Sogo Shoska View of Canada’s Trade Performance.
For those among you who are late risers, or who prefer to organize your own power breakfasts, the Professional Committee also hosts the occasional Evening Focus event. The Professional Committee welcomes proposals for future speakers and topics for our seminars. Please submit your suggestions to PAFSO c/o Debra Hulley at 234-1391 or write to the PAFSO Office, 600-45 Rideau Street, Ottawa, K1N 5W8.
