bout de papier, Vol. 5, No. 1 (1987) — Spring 1987 // Printemps 1987, p. 5

Dear Editor,

I write to congratulate you upon your excellent publication.

I read it with much pleasure and, I must confess, a “brin de nostalgie.”

A.B. Gold Chief Justice, Superior Court of Québec

Dear Editor,

Do you think our membership is aware that Voyageur bus drivers in Quebec earn $50,000 per annum including benefits bonuses and overtime, whereas the current maximum for an FS-1 is $39,025 and for an FS-2, $55,242? Evidently, our commitment to Canada is stronger than we may have previously thought.

J.D. Gardner

I would like to congratulate you most warmly on the consistently high quality of bout de papier. I receive each issue with pleasure and read it cover to cover.

Having just done that with your winter issue 1986, I must draw your attention to one error of fact in Georges Blouin’s article on Roger Rousseau. Roger’s posting as Ambassador to Venezuela is described as his last diplomatic assignment. Roger Rousseau was my predecessor having served as High Commissioner to New Zealand, 1981-85.

A. Douglas Small Canadian High Commissioner to New Zealand

We read with interest in the Winter issue of bout de papier the letter from PAFSO President Led Mader on p. 4 and D.S. Copeland, Vice-President of PAFSO on the Foreign Service Prospect p. 31. We believe we are not alone in thinking that PAFSO must take energetic measures by pursuing the objectives described by D.S. Copeland in his article. Especially now when all we hear about from Ottawa is cuts in positions and post closing as if we were largely expendable. As a group we must ask, if not demand, that we receive the same advantages as other professional groups in the PSC. Mr. Copeland is right when he says quote We need better compensation, enhanced mobility, and more control over our individual and collective destinies unquote.

One can only hope that the current PAFSO executive will aggressively take up this challenge in the contract negotiation talks with management and we wish them success in their endeavour.

Dear Editor,

My wishes for the continued success of the publication.
