Last issue, bout de papier published the letter that the President of PAFSO, Colin Robertson, sent to all political parties before the October federal election. The letter stated the Association’s views on a professional foreign service and its concerns over the increasing number of political appointments to the service. The letter asked for the views of all Canadian political parties on the issue of patronage and the foreign service.
Here are the responses from the Liberal and Reform parties. We are pleased to note that they support a professional foreign service and the need to move away from some of the practices of the previous government. The Bloc Québécois acknowledged the PAFSO letter. The Progressive Conservatives did not reply.
