En 2016, le concours de photo de l’APASE comportait deux catégories. La première, en noir ct blanc, avait pour thème « Un regard canadien sur le monde », tandis que la deuxième, « Les agents du Service extérieur en action », cherchant à illustrer le travail de promotion des valeurs canadiennes.
Clarie Caillo-Cholley won the First Prize in the first category for “A man and his camel, Abu Dhabi”. The Picture was taken on an isolated Farm in the middle of the désert, 50 km from Abu Dhabi. “An Emirati approaches the camel and speaks to it while gently patting its head”, explained Clarie. “This moment of complicity and trust between the man and the camel was particularty touching. To me, it symbolizes the close relationship, almost sacred, which unités Emiratis to their camels. Like the Salukis, Arabian horses and Falcons, camels are part of the precious héritage of the Bedouin culture. Each winter, between 20 000 and 30 000 animals, bred in farms, participate in spectacular camel races organized on sand tracks. This is one of the oldest traditions of the United Arab Emirates.”
Laura Atar and Nicolas St-Pierre won the second Prize ex aequo in this category.
