Stephen Woollcombe, after thirty years in the Department and postings in Yaoundé, Paris, Jakarta, Washington, Bonn and Caracas, was this year visiting professor at the Universidad de los Andes in Mérida, Venezuela and is now a sessional lecturer at Carleton University, Ottawa. He is also advisor to the IDRC project in the Amazon that is mentioned in this article.
