Geoffrey F. Bruce is a former Foreign Service Officer now living in Brussels. His distinguished career included postings in Tel Aviv, Colombo, Vienna, New York, Nairobi (as High Commissioner to Kenya, Comoros, Somalia, and Uganda as well as Permanent Representative to UNEP and HABITAT), and Lisbon (where he was Ambassador until his retirement). It was Geoffrey Bruce who first pushed strongly for environment and development issues to become a key element of Canadian foreign policy which should be at the top of the global political agenda and who originated the concept of an independent UN World Commission on Environment and Development.
