Gar Pardy is an aged foreign service officer who grew up in the shadow of the development of modern-day commercial aviation in Gander, Nfld. His interest and fascination with things aviation has been reflected in his work in Foreign Affairs where he has dealt with several plane crashes involving Canadians. He is currently the Director General of the Consular Affairs Bureau.
