This is the floor plan of the top two storeys of the Canadian Embassy at Stillbone Falls. You are conducting from Ottawa a survey of office space utilization as a function of provincial origin (an initiative of the First Ministers’ Conference). Unfortunately, both the Head of Chancery and the Communicator who handled the Stillbone Falls report had been into the local firewater as part of Canada Day the night before, so the report is, shall we say, not entirely complete:
(1) Ambassador Sternwheeler has the biggest office (of course).
(2) Ms. deTrop and the Counsellor (Trade) are from Quebec, while the Minister (Political) and Mrs. Redcorner are from BC.
(3) Third Secretary (Consular) Quillbiter and the Second Secretary (Administration) from Manitoba have adjcent offices east/west of each other.
(4) Mr. Proudfinger’s secretary, the SCY-2 in the office just south of his on the third floor, also works for two other officers.
(5) The most senior officer and the most junior secretary are from Alberta and PEI, not necessarily in that order.
(6) The office of Mr. Undershaft (a Westerner) is next to Miss Illwillow’s.
(7) Col. de Sabre, the Military Attaché from New Brunswick, has an office beside the stairs.
(8) The Ambassador’s secretary, a SCY-3 from Nova Scotia, works in Room 6.
(9) Mr. Oxenhammer, a SCY-1, works in the office between that of the First Secretary (Aid) and that of Mr. Shindlesweet; the man from Ontario, for whom Oxenhammer also works, has the office beside one of the other two.
(10) No-one is beside, directly above or directly below someone else from the same region (West — BC and the Prairies; Central — Ontario and Quebec; Eastern — the Maritimes), and everyone has his/her own office.

Given this information, what is the name, rank and province of the occupant of each office? bout de papier will give a prize of $25 for the first correct answer drawn from entries received before June 1, 1985. (SFP would probably also be grateful to know!)
