Friends of Milton Blair Blackwood were saddened to learn of his sudden death in La Jolla, California on October 31, 1992. A memorial service at La Jolla was held on November 8.
Following a distinguished career in the RCAF in World War II as a Navigator on Lancaster bombers (35 operations) and completion of his studies at the University of Manitoba and the University of Minnesota in agricultural economics, Milton joined the Trade Commissioner Service in 1951. In a 36-year career he served in Hong Kong, Bonn, Djakarta, Mexico City, Singapore, London, Johannesburg, Sydney and Detroit — in the latter two as Consul General.
Milton also served in Ottawa as Assistant Director (Administration) of the Trade Commissioner Service (1961-64) where his wide field experience brought a thorough understanding of the needs of those serving at posts abroad.
In retirement he and his wife Helen enjoyed gardening, bridge and travelling widely. Each year they spent seven months in Vancouver and the winter period in La Jolla. In Vancouver, Milton organized an informal and popular Sunday morning club at which he and his wife were able to keep in touch with and enjoy their many friends living in or passing through that city.
