William Fred Bull died at his home in Ottawa on Friday, January 22, 1993. He was born on December 31, 1903 in Weston, Ontario. After earning a B. Comm. degree from the University of Toronto, Mr. Bull joined Trade and Commerce as a junior Trade Commissioner in March, 1929 and served in New York, Port of Spain and Auckland. He was recalled to Ottawa in December 1941. In May 1943 he went to Washington as Commercial Attaché. He returned to Ottawa in 1945 to the Export Division, then as Director, later ADM, of the Commodities and Controls Division. On April 1, 1952 he became Deputy Minister of Trade and Commerce, transferring to External Affairs in mid-1957 when appointed Ambassador to Japan where he stayed for five years. From 1962-1968 he was Ambassador to the Netherlands retiring at the end of his posting there.
