Friends and colleagues of Mehul (Mike) Shah will be saddened to learn of his sudden passing on Friday, June 22, 2001. Mike joined the Political/Economic stream of the Department in 1993. He served with distinction in the Oceans, Environmental and Economic Law Division, as well as in the Trade Law Division of the Department prior to his assignment to the Canadian Mission to the European Union in Brussels. He joined the Information and Technology Trade Policy Division when he returned to Canada in 1999, and was recently appointed Deputy Director for Intellectual Property. Mike Shah was a first-class foreign service officer and an outstanding member of the public service — the kind who makes this government strong. He will be sorely missed by friends and colleagues.
